Ice skaters broke out their skates for the season at the DECC arena today.

Some showed off their figure skating moves, others held hands...some were learning how to skate for the first time.

The open skating party is part of a series of events put on annually by the Parks and Rec Department.

Skaters young and old enjoyed the perks of skating in the mild temperatures indoors.

"Oh just to come out and be able to skate. When there's nothing else really open anywhere. Once they get the outdoor rink we can skate outside again but until then it's nice to skate inside," said Craig Vanneste, who was skating with his daughter Lily.

Missed out on today's open skate?

There's three more times you can hit the ice for free...

Sunday, December 26 from 3:00-5:00 PM

Sunday, January 23 from 3:00-5:00 PM in the new Amsoil Arena

Sunday, February 6 (Skate with the Bulldogs) 3:00-5:00 PM in the new Amsoil Arena
