Celebrate American figure skating with "Rise" at Saginaw 12 on Feb. 17 - MLive.com

NCM Fathom and U.S. Figure Skating will present the cinematic feature "RISE," as part of a special in-theater event at 8 p.m. Feb. 17, at Saginaw 12, 3250 Kabobel in Kochville Township.

To film will celebrate American figure skating, while commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Feb. 15, 1961 plane crash in which all of the members of the U.S. World Figure Skating team perished.

The event will includes choreographed figure skating performances, interviews with American figure skating legends, a red-carpet extravaganza and the world premiere of RISE.

Peggy Fleming, Dorothy Hamill, Scott Hamilton, Brian Boitano and Michelle Kwan will serve as storytellers for the event. The figure skating legends will share personal insights and experiences by linking the interwoven stories of some of the biggest names and moments in the history of the sport to those skaters on the 1961 U.S. World Team who lost their lives on Sabena Airlines Flight 548 on its way to the World Championships in Prague, Czechoslovakia.

2010 Olympic champion Evan Lysacek and his legendary coach, Frank Carroll, family and friends of members of the 1961 Team, and other luminaries of the sport will share their memories of the Team while discussing the effects the tragedy had on the skating world and beyond.
