On February 15, 1961, the world of United States Figure Skating changed forever.

Flight 548, which carried the entire 1961 U.S. team, crashed near Brussels, Belgium.  All 72 people who were on board died in the crash.

On Thursday, movie theaters nationwide showed the film "Rise" which celebrated American figure skating while commemorating the 50th anniversary of one of the darkest days in U.S. sports history.

At Micheal A. Ries Ice Rink in Parma, the tragedy and movie were on the minds of young skaters practicing their sport.

"If that was my coach on that plane or anyone I knew from figure skating on the plane, how horrible that would be," said figure skater Alexis Hipkins of Parma.  "It makes me appreciate the people that I have at the rink."

Skating fans took in the movie at Cinemark Movie Theater in Valley View.  Jack Lamprecht's family knew members of the team who died in the crash.

"I am here to relive some of those glory days and pay my dues to those people who went down in that plane crash," said Lamprecht.
